The God Who Establishes

“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90.17 NKJV

One of the words God gave us for WhiteNoise Studio this year was establish. This is not a thing we can do. It is a thing God does.

That’s not to say that we have no part in the works of Christ. We certainly do; it’s just that we are not the origin. We are participants in what Christ originates because, as both Alpha and Omega, only God knows and declares the end from the beginning.

In other words, He has a design and an intent. When we are in step with Him, we are partners in the work. We are not masters of the work, and it does not depend on us, yet the invitation to come and participate is refreshed every morning as grace—that old, rugged grace—is renewed. God wants us to work with Him. There is an open invitation to come and see, and it still stands today.

And this is how the beauty of the LORD our God rests upon us. We definitely work, but when we work for Him, our work cannot help but be blessed. Indeed, when God establishes the work of our hands for us, nothing less than a miracle is born.

Just as Gideon labored to overthrow Midian with three hundred men, some jars, and some torches, we too get to step into obedience and watch God move. When He does, it is obvious who is doing the heavy lifting and who gets all the glory.
